Thoughts from the Woods

Updated: Jul 31, 2023

With the polarization of America, (heck the world,) that has been going on I have been seeing, more and more, the sentiment that social media has caused it.

I would totally disagree. I realize that the tech giants sensor the narrative, and that the polarization of ideas sells, but I really believe all that social media has done is expose the brokenness of the human heart.

Humans have tried to live with the false sense of security that humanity is basically good, and if we try hard enough we can usher in the utopia of human perfection which brings peace.

We have had our heads in the sand. Chose politeness over truth, and chose a world lacking confrontation over one that values reality. Emotion has taken the place of thought, and under the giles of political correctness we have killed debate.

America is the best solution humanism has came up with. In its essence, it is the best system that lifts people up under its own strength, but its in that same essence where the problem lies. Total democracy depends on good humans, and to be good at that level only perfection can be the only standard. The pure democratic society can only be a good one if it is perfect. If it isn't perfect than there is some goodness lost. This is at the essence of the brokenness we see in America today.

You can never base essence in a broken vessel and expect it to float...which is what we have done. We are paddling a canoe riddled with holes and half sunk. Yet we still believe if we paddle harder the canoe will somehow dewater itself. Lunacy. We need to look somewhere else.

What social media has exposed is the essence of us. The sand is being blown away from our heads. There is no more hiding. The light will confront us all, expose our true essence...and actually get to the root of the all consuming storm that is upon us...and I thank God for it! The lie of us...has been exposed. We cannot fix this. The reality is we created it.

Why would I thank God for this? Because reality is usually ignored until it can't be any longer. Regardless of affiliation, 2020 (and 21) has rocked us to the core. There is an impending dark age that is eating at us all. We are starting to realize the full weight of human sin, and that's a great thing. We are not longer textualizing Psalm 53:3 ESV —"They have all fallen away; together they have become corrupt; there is none who does good, not even one." and started feeling it within our own spirits. On the surface it seems dreadful, but in reality it's beautiful.

People are starting to wake up out of our naturalistic slumber that has deceived us for eons. We are realizing that we are more than hairless apes. We are feeling real spiritual pain, which means that our spirit is really there and it needs CPR. People are becoming awake through the pressure of this heavy spirit. Spiritual gasps of air are being gulped by what we're once corpses.

The Good news is that there is real Life giving spiritual oxygen, and it exist within a relationship with the Best Dude to ever walk this earth. The perfection that humanity has been looking for all this time. The perfection that can only exist in a personal God who is named Jesus.

How do you get to know this person? Quit rowing a holey canoe...throw it away (repent) and believe that you can connect to a perfect God.

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” (Romans 3:23)

“For the wages of sin is death…” (Romans 6:23a)

“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)

“If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.” (Romans 10:9-10)
